In a nutshell, photosynthesis is an important phenomenon for autotrophs like plants where they synthesize their own food (glucose) from inorganic source (CO2) using energy from sunlight. However, the photosynthetic process consists of more complex reactions that encompasses two stages: light-dependent and light-independent stage.

For the purpose of this question, the light independent stage is so called because it does not require light to occur i.e. can take place in the dark. It is also called CALVIN CYCLE and it occurs in the matrix of the CHLOROPLAST called STROMA. In the Calvin cycle, CO2 absorbed by plant via their stomata is fixed by RUBP (CO2 acceptor) and catalyzed by RUBISCO.

This fixation, coupled with series of reduction and phosphorylation by NADPH and ATP respectively (produced during light dependent stage), produces a 3 carbon compound called Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P), which leaves the Calvin cycle to contribute to the formation of Glucose.
