True or false scientists think cancer begins in something damages a cells proteins

That's false scientist know that cancer cells originate within the body itself but they don't understand when it's activated Or even if you could come from something damaging the cells proteins (I for instants have a calcium deficiency and myself proteins are damaged how ever I don't have cancer)
