Tsunami occurs as a series of waves in water and it is caused by the displacement of water from an ocean. They are unlike normal tides which are caused due to the gravitational pull of moon and sun. The waves of Tsunami are curvy and when they move towards the shore, the wave on one side of the island can merge with the wave on the other side. This creates a bigger wave that could reach the side of the island that is away from the source of the earthquake.Thus, the other side is not safe as well as in case of earthquakes.
