The x-iinked gene responsible for dmd encodes a protein called dystrophin that is required for muscle function. dystrophin protein is not secreted-it remains in the cells that produce it. given what you know about barr body formation, do you think that females heterozygous for the recessive dmd disease allele could have the disease in some parts of their bodies and not others?
