Table salt is also known as common salt with chemical formula NaCl. In this chemical compound the Na represents element sodium while Cl represents element chlorine. Both of these elements are bonded with each other with the help of ionic bond.

An ionic bond is formed when one atom looses its electron to form an ion with positive charge and another atom gains this electron and forms negatively charged ion. Since opposites attract, these two ions interact with each other to form a bond thereby achieving stability.

For example:

          Na⁺  + Cl⁻    →      NaCl
