Glucocorticoids enable the body to deal appropriately with stress by mobilizing energy into the bloodstream from storage sites in the body where they increase the cardiovascular tone to produce an array of effects on response to stress. They delay long term processes in the body during crisis such as digestion, growth, and reproduction. Glucocorticoids hormones are secreted by adrenal glands to reestablish homeostasis by mediating the primary response to stress. Glucocorticoids suppress high levels of stress and may lead to tissue damage if left unchecked.
