When the body of slug comes in contact of salt, the body of slug starts secreting mucus in order to remove the salt. But when this salt is either is excess quantity or regularly applied as in the case of potato chips packets, then higher amount of water is excreted out of the body of slug as result of osmosis.

Excess loss of water causes dehydration and due to which the slug dies and convert into slime.
