STRUCTURE OF WATER:

Water is a molecule composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The hydrogen and oxygen atoms in a water molecule unequally share electrons causing the oxygen atom to be more electronegative and the hydrogen atom to be more electropositive. This difference in ionic charges of the atoms in water molecule is the reason for its POLARITY. Due to this, opposite charges are attracted to one another in adjacent water molecules causing the formation of HYDROGEN BOND between water molecules.

As a result of this hydrogen bonding, water molecules have unique properties such as high boiling point, high specific heat, cohesion, adhesion and density etc.
