The Turks pretend to sail toward to mislead Venetians into thinking they won't attack Cyprus.Iago is attacking other characters and they are very unaware of the attack coming just like they are unaware of the Turks coming.

What i think is that it adds loudness for preachers/church choirs. it is also able to hold up a lot of weight without pillars. : )) idek tho
