What common elements are found in the fauve style of art ?

The characteristics of Fauvism includes a radical use of unnatural colors that separated color from its usual representational and realistic role, giving new, emotional meaning to the colors  and creating a strong, unified work that appears flat on the canvas. It was founded by a small group of French artists which included Henri Matisse, André Derain, Georges Braque and Maurice de Vlaminck.
