This visual narration is the Bayeux Tapestry, which depicts events from the Battle of Hastings.  Its historical significance is that it is was when the Normans/French conquered England. Its medium is a tapestry: A heavy hand-woven textile, these figures and all this text is embroidered. Its  practical significance is that its very portable and since its a thick pieces of cloth, it helped insulate homes during the winter.
