How can I add/request people to be my friend on here?

Click on the person's profile picture. This will take you to their profile information. On the right there will be a button that says something like friend user. Click that and the other user will receive a notification. They can either accept the request or ignore it.

You click on their pfp (profile pic) and then it will take you to their profile. Then all you have to do is click the small blue writing to the side that says "add friend". :)
