The symptoms of depression can bring about some drastic changes in a depressed person’s life, daily routines, and their behaviour.

Often it is these changes that makes the depression worse and prevent the depression from getting better.

For example, a lack of motivation or a lack of energy can result in a depressed person cutting back on their activities, neglecting their daily tasks and responsibilities, and leaving decision-making to others.

Have you noticed these changes in yourself when you are depressed?

You may find that you:

have become less and less active

don’t go out much anymore

avoid hanging out with friends

have stopped engaging in your favourite activity.

The symptoms of depression can disturb a person's life greatly. Whether it be daily routines, behavior, or social interactions, depressed thinking is a vicious cycle. These major changes can result in being more depressed and prevent the person from improving and getting better. It can prevent the person from getting better because they have neglected their daily routines and responsibilities for so long, it seems almost impossible to get back on the right path, leading to worsening depression. Depression is most common in females, however, anybody can develop depression due to biological or other influences. Biological influences of depression consist of genetics, stress, physical illness, or gender as stated previously. It is important to remember that depression can cause loss of motivation, concentration, loss of appetite, loss of interest, and many other signs. When looking at depression through the social-cognitive perspective, depression is learned through behaviors, environmental aspects, as well as experiences.
