The prompt enforces multiple limitations onto the writer.  A key one being, the date of global reform efforts. There have many been many numerous efforts to reform a government throughout the human history, and by only allowing us to discuss 45 years of global reform efforts, our discussion is limited to a curtain amount of time. A choice the writer is given is to explain different parts of the Industrial Revolution and how it may been spread throughout the world.  

2.Draft an initial thesis in response to the prompt. Then explain why the thesis meets the document based–question essay’s requirements.  

The use of machines to produce day-to-day products made the standard of living for the general population in the western world began to increase consistently for the first time in history. This thesis meets the document based–question essay’s requirements because it addresses the Industrial Revolution and its effects on the general mass.

3.Write two to three sentences describing a broader historical context that is relevant to the above prompt. After you complete your sample, explain how it meets the essay’s requirements for contextualization.

As of the above prompt’s time, Europe was filled with rebellions, civil wars, revolutions, etc. for the rights of the citizens. Citizens globally felt as if they were not being treated properly due to the system of castes and rankings. The thought of machines doing their jobs for them, could have possible influenced the Industrial Revolution. Unfortunately, they were incorrect, as the lives of children would become synonymous with slavery as the introduction of the machine enters. This sample meets the essay’s requirements for contextualization because it discusses a broad historical context, and how it correlates to the Industrial Revolution.

The four components of the HIPP strategy for analyzing sources include: historical context, intended audience, point of view, and purpose of the documents. The historical context of this document is the Industrial Revolution taking full effect. Machines have taken over people’s lives. The intended audience of this document is people such as me, who are looking back at these documents a hundred years later. To truly realize the absolute hell, that people my age, a hundred years ago went through. The point of view of this document is John Spargo, a leading public intellectual and historian during the Progressive Era. The purpose of this document is to educate. To inform everybody what is going in John Spargo’s country.

Three strategies I could use to show that I have a complex understanding of the historical development that I am analyzing include: Accurately answering the questions with evidence to support my claims, doing extensive research to genuinely get a grasp of the topic I am researching, and getting multiple point of views. By getting multiple point of views, I can identify who is struggling, who is thriving, and who is documenting the scenario. An example of me putting one of these strategies into effect is as the following: According to John Spargo, a leading public intellectual and historian during the Progressive Era, ““Children have always worked, but it is only since the reign of the machine that their work has been synonymous with slavery…” The reign of machines took a toll on the physical and mental state of children, as they were forced to work in crowded factories that were most likely filled with toxic chemicals.
