In the works of Homer, an ancient Greek poet who most famously wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey, there is no word for blue. In many Greek writings, there is no explicit reference to the color blue. Oceans are referred to as "wine-dark" and the sky is referred to in tones of bronze. A Greek philosopher, Empedocles, said there were only four basic colors: white, black, red and yellow.

Another Greek philosopher wrote that rainbows were only 3 colors: dark purple and two shades of red.

The word 'blue' does not appear in any books of the New Testament of the Bible that were first written in Greek.

Draw a conclusion about why this lexical gap existed.
