Biomagnification (also called amplification) causes the increased concentration of a substance(usually toxin) in a higher level of the food chain. The substance usually hard to break down, making it accumulate in the body tissue. The accumulation will get worse on higher-level food chains as they consume a lot of lower-level organisms. We can find very high levels of mercury from shark, albacore or other high-level carnivores. Trout and tuna also have a high-level of mercury because of the pollution. On the lower level, salmon have really low mercury concentration.
